“The results and respondent comments from the 2020 survey, which coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic and the introduction of new regulations for brokers, highlighted that many of our members were experiencing difficulty with time management, managing their work-life balance and generally remaining resilient in difficult times.

We’ve produced this eBook, Balancing work, life and everything else, as a resource to address these concerns and support our members as they navigate running a business with a work/life balance that allows them to succeed. It’s filled with tips and advice from a range of successful broking business owners from different walks of life, different business sizes and different stages of business growth.

We asked them about the biggest challenges they’ve faced in running a successful broking business, strategies they’ve employed to overcome these challenges and their advice to other brokers facing similar situations. We hope this resource assists you in effectively managing both your business and a balanced lifestyle.” The MFAA team.

Extract from the MFAA Wellbeing eBook.

As an Agribusiness Manager David regularly travels across regional South Australia to visit farmer clients offering a range of services including asset and home-loan finance, strategic business planning, succession planning and business financial health checks. He says the thing core to his job is helping farmers become awesome business owners. “We work with farmers who are excellent at their trade but not always excellent at running a business,” David said. “That’s where we are seeing a huge amount of adjustment within this industry.”

Although based in Adelaide, David has always been a country boy at heart. He spent a lot of time on his grandparents’ farm growing up and although he didn’t follow the family lineage into farming, he has stayed connected to the land by working in agribusiness. Initially starting his career in the corporate world, a redundancy six years ago created the opportunity for him to become an agribusiness finance broker.

Eighteen months ago, he merged his business into Riverland Lending Services which has helped bring additional support and stability and enabled him to expand his footprint across South Australia. Although finance was where he started, increasingly, his work is becoming more focussed on providing advice and consulting services helping farmers navigate their way through business growth, family succession planning and challenging operating environments.
